apparantly looks like you have a problem with a module.
you may need to get the dump and have it analyzed.
what is the panic message?

Re: Server crash hpux 11.11 --urgent help

Google tells me "atdd" seems to be a driver for some IBM tape hardware.

Have you patched the system, or made any other configuration changes since the last time the server was booted successfully?

Have you tried booting the system with the previous kernel configuration (vmunix.prev)? If that is successful, then something may have gone wrong in your last kernel configuration change.

Re: Server crash hpux 11.11 --urgent help

I agree with Matti's recommendation to boot from vmunix.prev. Once you get the server back up, you can verify the proper version of the driver was installed for your OS. For HP-UX B.11.11, the driver version should start with a 3 (3.n.n.n).

Hope this helps,

Shalom,

Current kernel is definitely hosed.

Booting off alternate kernel is the only quick way to bring your system up.

The same cause, that atdd? Has it ever worked since you added it?

Re: Server crash hpux 11.11 --urgent help

Trng,

-What was the uptime before it crashed,
-If there was a previous crash, if yes did you check in /var/adm/crash/ when the system was up.
- what is the output of /etc/shutdownlog (If previously taken) .

- What is the previous /etc/rc.log says for atdd driver. (was it loaded successfully.)

- Try following:
Initialize loadable modules ................................................. atdd

At this time quickly press "Ctrl+Alt+| " to bypass the driver, hope fully the system will bootup.

- The driver can be bypass by renaming the /sbin/rcx.d/Sxxatdd (something like that) file to ZZxxatdd , so it won't load next time.

Re: Server crash hpux 11.11 --urgent help

Hi Trng,

Have you changed anything on the server before it behaved wrong? Any SW or HW install?

Did it crashed or have you just restarted the system? If unsure take a look into /etc/shutdownlog

you can unload it by

# kmadmin -U module_name

or you could edit the init script and comment the relevant lines for atdd.

I know that you can interrupt the hanging NFS with the sequence "CTRL+|" (that's a pipe char). I don't know if it also applies to other startup processes.

I read once that the sequence "Ctrl+Alt+|" is for bypassing the loading of a driver, but never used it. You could try it and give me a feedback.
