Setup DNS

My newly setup linux server run very slow, someone said to me it will run faster if modify DNS setting, does the DNS setting affect the speed of O/S? what file should be modify? Thanks.

Hi

Depending of what you do ( specially thru the network) , it's important to have a correct DNS setting ).

You should check ( doing simple nslookup ) that you have correct answers ...


I you can't configure your DNS, you can fill the /etc/hosts file with the most commonly used machines you communicate with

I noticed very slow performance on the machine if network cards were active but not configured correctly.

At the console.

cd /etc/sysconfig/networks-scripts

mv all the ifcfg scripts somewhere.

Restart the machine.

If it runs faster, there is your problem.

Check the ifcfg scripts carefully for errors, makes sure the IP adresses and netmasks and gateways are all valid.
