Sharing System Memory
My server has 14 GB of physical Memory.
It's a database dedicated server.
It's running a Sybase ASE 15.0.1 database with 6 GB asigned.
The distribution of memory is:
5.3 GB System
1.4 GB Buffer
1.3 GB Free
I expected that I can give 10 GB to the database... so:
-) Have I misconfigured the server parameters so the system is wasting a lot of memory?
-) Is healthy to have the same amount of memory for the db and the system?
Best Regard from Mexico!

Re: Sharing System Memory
The system may be caching lots of data because you aren't making more demands on it?

Re: Sharing System Memory
HP-UX 11.11
The database inside (within the 6 GB asigned) uses a cache area.

Re: Sharing System Memory
I was thinking about the buffer cache and other system caches.

What tool did you use to get this?

Re: Sharing System Memory
The tool to mesure the memory is glance.
# kmtune|grep dbc
dbc_max_pct 10 - 10
dbc_min_pct 5 - 5
# swapinfo -mat
