Some question abaut lost+found directory comes

Hello.
I know something abaut lost+found but could someone tell me more.
1. What goes to lost+found during crash (what files and what is the reason of that)
2. Does the size of lost+found is real size occupying disk space?
3. When, how and whether lost+found should be cleaned?

The lost+found directories is used to store orphan files. In genral there is no need for cleaning this directory. For each File system there will be lost+found directory.
