Steps to install the patches in Linux RHEL 4

Dear Experts,

HP recommended to update the patches related to DP for the Linux server.
The recommended patches are:

Linux - Core patch DPLNX_00090
Linux - Disk Agent patch DPLNX_00086
Linux - Media Agent patch DPLNX_00087

Please help me how i can install the above patches.

Note that, already the following patches are available:

PHSS_36622/PHSS_36623/DPSOL_00294/DPLNX_00029 Core Component
PHSS_36544/PHSS_36545/DPSOL_00288/DPLNX_00024 Disk Agent
PHSS_36395/PHSS_36396/DPSOL_00275/DPLNX_00021 Media Agent

They suggest to upgrade it to latest version to fix bugs and improves the performance.

Thank you.

Re: Steps to install the patches in Linux RHEL 4

Go to http://itrc.hp.com website.

Select "Patch Database" under "Downloads".

Type the patch id (e.g. DPLNX_00090) to the text box under "Find a specific patch". Press Enter.

On the "search results" page, click on the name of the patch to view the patch details.

There is a big pile of links at the centre of the page. Click on the second-to-last link, named "Installation Instructions".

You will see the list of steps to install this patch.

Also read the next sub-section, titled "Special installation instructions".

The procedure listed above is applicable to at least all HP-UX patches and all Linux application patches produced by HP.

Shalom,

Maybe I am clueless and missed some kind of innovation, but some of those patches you list above are not for Linux.

PHSS is a subsystem patch designation for HP-UX.

What you might be displaying above is a patch matrix, but the PHSS patches need to be installed on HP-UX infrastructure that is part of your DP setup.

Looks like a patch equivalency table to me.

Or maybe I need more coffee.

There are installation instructions on the ITRC patch database site.

http://itrc.hp.com
patch database.

I assume you will choose Linux next, but perhaps there is a DP option as well.

Re: Steps to install the patches in Linux RHEL 4

SEP, no I don't think you're confused because I have the same confustion. PHSS is a SD_UX patch that gets install with the 'swinstall' command, while RH is going to want a 'yum' or 'rpm' named patch.

As for the installation instructions referred to in the patch, I looked them up and they are also for a SD-UX, swinstall installation.

Matt states something I did not know, that all HP patches can be installed on linux with SD-UX.

And I have no idea about that.

Good suggestion about patch equivalency tables. That seems like the road to travel on to me unless Matt is right.

Re: Steps to install the patches in Linux RHEL 4

Hopefully the tar files include installation instruction.

Anyone showing me how to use SD/UX to install patches in Linux gets a few beers. Minimum.

I think there is something we are all missing about this infrastructure.

You know SEP, you got that backwards. Its after you have a few beers SD-UX will work on linux.

Re: Steps to install the patches in Linux RHEL 4

those patches go on your backup master server, then you push the agents to the clients from within DP. any missing updates will then be installed.
