Re: Su - permission denied

Are you allowed to su to root?

Is there a suroot group set and are you a member?

Re: Su - permission denied

Hello,

Let's start with simple checks:

a) Which su command are you using?
In ther words, are you really using /usr/bin/su (or /bin/su, they are
the same), or something else?

If your PATH contains "." or strange
directories early in the listing, you could be
running a different or even hacked version
of the command!

b) Assuming you are using /usr/bin/su (/bin/su), does this command work for any
other account. For example, as yourself,
try:

# /bin/su -

c) What do /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log and /var/adm/sulog entries report?

d) Does su command work for another account.
If you cannot execute it, can your colleague?

e) Out of interest, is your account running
in chroot-ed (jailed) environment?

f) Is root account disabled? Can you log in
as root without using su command (for example, at the console)?

I would like to see if root's home directory is OK.

g) Finally, what is your version of HP-UX?

Cheers,

Re: Su - permission denied

One more thing. Is Bastille configured?
what does this command report:

# /opt/sec_mgmt/bastille/bin/bastille -l
