Synaptics touchpad on Mandriva Linux
May 17 16:17:15 localhost rpmdrake[7798]: [RPM] libsynaptics0-0.14.6c-1mdv2007.1 installed
May 17 16:17:23 localhost rpmdrake[7798]: [RPM] synaptics-0.14.6-2mdv2007.1 installed
May 17 16:17:24 localhost rpmdrake[7798]: [RPM] qsynaptics-0.22.0-2mdk installed
May 17 16:17:28 localhost rpmdrake[7798]: [RPM] ksynaptics-0.3.2-1mdv2007.1 installed
But to no avail. Watching the boot screen there is no mention of synaptics, so I'm quessing it is not being seen by udev and being inatialized. Any help greatfully apreciated

Re: Synaptics touchpad on Mandriva Linux
Try knoppix or centos live cd version, boot the box see if the behavior is the same.
If the touchpad works on another distribution its a problem with your distribution. If the behavior is consistent it could point to a hardware issue.
I hate touch pads and immediately connect real mice to my laptops.

Re: Synaptics touchpad on Mandriva Linux
it has been a while since I have looked through one closely, but memory seems to vaguely nudge me into thinking it should.
Just out of curiosity, do you find anything about the touchpad in your lspci output?

It is a PS2 connection so it probably would not show up on the pci buss.

Re: Synaptics touchpad on Mandriva Linux
The good news is I never use the things anyway.
I happen to be using Ubuntu 7.04 with a Toshiba Satellite laptop and the touchpad works just fine.
Suspect hardware.

Re: Synaptics touchpad on Mandriva Linux
Now I can't help but wonder which output I saw it in...
Sorry to send you down the wrong path, but at least it wasn't a command that takes hours to complete!
I think you mentioned that this is dual booted with M$ Windoze. What kind of description does M$ give you on it?
