System Administation Education

What options are there to learn how to use HP-UX for tasks such as Installing HPUX, connecting disk drives and tape drives, partitioning drives, installing Data Protector Backup and Restoring, etc?

Does HP have intensive localized courses?

HP has many different courses for HPUX but, unfortunately none can replace the experience gained on the job. Together with agreeing that, getting formal education is a good idea, I'd suggest making sure that you have a system to crash and burn at your leisure to learn what you want to attain. Otherwise, you will end up with another piece of paper at the end of your training, saying, you completed the course works for this and subject and that will be the end of it.

Re: System Administation Education

Hello Eric,

Others already gave you good advice.

I am a Senior Instructor in HP Education
team in Australia andc teach various HP-UX, Linux, ServiceGuard, Data Protector,
Network Node Manager, and so on courses.

Sometimes, the customers want customized
training too. For example, I had
written special one-day HP-UX 11.31
course for experienced Unix admins
which compares major tasks and
features between the major Unices. The
customer could not let their staff attend five-day training so they needed a
fast-tracked one. Their admins
were very experienced (Solaris, AIX,
Linux, mainframe)...

HP can help in many ways.

Apart from that, practical experience is
crucial. No theory can replace the
practice in jobs like IT.

Cheers,
