Telnet not working

One of our Tru64 server crashed over the couple days and now up and running and found that video card is bad. But meanwhile found that telnet doesn't work. How can we restart telnet to work?

Thanks for your time!

Re: Telnet not working

Hi,

The telnet daemon (telnetd) is usually run from inetd.

Take a look at /etc/inetd.conf and make sure it's not disabled there.

Hope this helps,

Re: Telnet not working

"doesn't work" is not a useful problem
description. What, exactly, are you doing,
and what, exactly, happens when you do it?
A transcript showing actual commands with
actual error messages can be more useful than
vague descriptions.

Re: Telnet not working

Sorry Guys, for not giving the details. Thank you for all your time.

I couldn't duplicate it now as it is running now and I didn't save the error, but I do remember is I couldn't telnet hostname as connection closed. When couldn't login via telnet then I did ssh and was trying to restart telnet daemon. I don't remember how to restart telnet daemon on Tru64? Thats what I was looking for help from u guys.

Finally "kill -HUP 1663", the pid for the inetd process which forces it to read the inetd.conf and restart. The inetd process must have glitched on the reboot.
