The diagnostic logging facility has started receiving excessive

Hi,

I got the following error messages while installing HP-UX 11.23 PI IA using a DVD:

DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM WARNING:
The diagnostic logging facility has started receiving excessive
errors from the I/O subsystem. I/O error entries will be lost
until the cause of the excessive I/O logging is corrected.
If the diaglogd daemon is not active, use the Daemon Startup command
in stm to start it.
If the diaglogd daemon is active, use the logtool utility in stm
to determine which I/O subsystem is logging excessive errors.

Can someone tell why this happens?

Thanks,
Rekha

Re: The diagnostic logging facility has started receiving excessive

Can you tell us on which server you are trying to install HPUX 11.23 ?
What is the release date of 11.23 written on DVD?

If the server is a cell based Itanium server, then ensure the ACPI setting is set to "default" required for HPUX at EFI shell.
shell > acpiconfig default
and then reset the partition/server and try to install OS

hi,

The server is rx2600.
The release date is 03/05.

Thanks,

Re: The diagnostic logging facility has started receiving excessive

Hi Rekha,
What this usually means is that a device has started reporting I/O errors faster than dialogd can deal with them (accessing a broken disk is one example).

Normally, you would need to do what it suggests to identify what the hardware causing the problem is:
use the logtool utility in stm
to determine which I/O subsystem is logging excessive errors.

However, I'm not sure what state this system would be in if you are part way through an install, and whether you can run STM at this stage. Is all the hardware connected to this system known to be working?
