Re: Time Zone

The server runs on UTC/GMT. If you want to set a local timezone, you need to edit /etc/TIMEZONE and for each user that doesn't want that as a default, they need to set TZ in their ~/.profile.
The list of supported timezones is in /usr/lib/tztab. See tztab(4).

If you don't have DST, you can create your own timezones.

This is different, so you should create a new thread in the Linux forum:

Re: Time Zone

Anyone who knows the timezone that corresponds to Rome, Italy (My server is there but I never has set this parameter for a Rome, Italy server).

Mr google finds:
http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/city.html?n=215

It indicates the current timezone is CEST. Try grepping for that in /usr/lib/tztab.
Possibly: CET-1CEST

Re: Time Zone

For some reason, HP-UX uses "Middle European" instead of "Central European" in its timezone acronyms, and the DST identifiers for Europe have six letters.

So, for HP-UX, the correct value for /etc/TIMEZONE is "MET-1METDST".

For RedHat 4:
Step 1.)
cp /usr/share/zoneinfo/Europe/Rome /etc/localtime

Step 2.)
edit the ZONE variable in /etc/sysconfig/date so that it says:
ZONE=Europe/Rome
