Re: Trace utility for Tru64 v 5.1

There are several unix guides but I like this one because within the guide, there are links to the utilities:
http://www.unixguide.net/unixguide.cgi says trace for Tru64 can be ftp'd from ftp://ftp.iastate.edu/pub/unix/osf1/trace/

Re: Trace utility for Tru64 v 5.1

I think you would be better off using truss as this correctly identifies the system calls names in Tru64 It is provided in the Extended_System_V kit on the AsScoiated Product CD 2.

No need to install the whole kit, just extract the binary and run it as you would trace.

Re: Trace utility for Tru64 v 5.1

Hi Ravi,

I concur with Andy's advise on using truss as provided with the Extended System V kit. With Tru64 UNIX V5.1 and higher a license is not required to use these tools. For V5.1 the Extended System V kit is on Associated Product CD #2 under the directory Extended_System_V/kit/, specifically you want the ESVFBINnnn subset for truss. FYI, the ../Extended_System_V/kit/ESVFBIN100 file is a 'compress' tar file. You can use uncompress and then tar to extract truss from the kit.

The truss tool works well with processes that fork children processes showing the environment variables etc...

Hope this helps.
