Tru64 4.0G patchkit 4 upgrade deletes mktemp
Applying patchkit 4 for version 4.0G seems to delete /usr/bin/mktemp.
This was discovered because defragcron references it and when it can't find it, it deletes /dev/null. Believe it or not!
Thanks in advance,
Bill Westphal

Re: Tru64 4.0G patchkit 4 upgrade deletes mktemp
No, can say that I have. I've just checked a system that has V4.0G PK4 installed and the /usr/bin/mktemp is the proper file provided from the PK4 installation.
I've checked around and find no other similar reports.
I'd be curious if our dupatch installation went OK?
Check out the /var/adm/patch/log/session.log file that logged the PK4 installation to see if it reported any errors.
Was patch OSFPAT00108700445 installed?
This is the patch that includes mktemp fixes.
This patch includes the man page also - check to see if it was installed - /usr/share/man/man3/mktemp.3.gz .
If the patch was installed, fverify the subset to make sure it's ok?
Ex. # /usr/lbin/fverify < /usr/.smdb./OSFPAT00067500445.inv

Re: Tru64 4.0G patchkit 4 upgrade deletes mktemp
Configuring "Patch: Updates the mktemp(3) reference page" (OSFPAT00067500445)
# setld -v OSFPAT00108700445
setld: OSFPAT00108700445: not currently installed
- The new man pages for mktemp were installed.
# setld -v OSFPAT00067500445
Patch: Updates the mktemp(3) reference page (OSFPAT00067500445)
- Anymore ideas? I've placed a call to HP support. We'll see what they come up with, as well.
Thanks for the response.

Re: Tru64 4.0G patchkit 4 upgrade deletes mktemp
- the utility /usr/bin/mktemp is relatively new, it does not appear in Tru64 until ver 5.1a. Patchkit 4 for ver 4.0G is also suppose to install it. In my case, however, it didn't.
- the patch OSFPAT00108700445 contains /usr/bin/mktemp. It does exist in the patchkit.
- all I need to do is install that patch and I should be alright.
Thanks to everybody. Case closed!
