Tru64 multiple HBA to SAN
We are planning to migrate from SAN storage HDS9960 to XP24000, I have one query - We have ES80 running V5.1B-3 PK5, with three HBAs with 2Gbps capable.
My question is - does OS balance disk I/Os among HBAs? Is this a manual configurred feature?
Thanks,

Re: Tru64 multiple HBA to SAN
Tru64 automatically load balances IO across HBAs using a cost basis. This means it avoids cross-RAD io if at all possible and favors local HBA access within the RAD. If there are no HBAs available in the local RAD, then one is chosen on a least cost basis - i.e. closest RAD. IO is spread to available HBAs on a least busy basis. Essentially acting like round robin.

Re: Tru64 multiple HBA to SAN
In other words, Tru64 already had the best support possible for multipath 5+ years ago integrated while other OSes, notably HPUX, were still trying to figure out what to do with it and tried to exract a premium (securepath) from its customer trying to hide their weakness. Just an opinion of course :-).
