Re: UPGRADE DISK STATION DS 2300
I think this will be a very complicated and challenging task. In a very high level I think something called business copy can do this for you, if your DS 2300 supports it.
thanks

Re: UPGRADE DISK STATION DS 2300
For your question, it depend on your system requirement.
But as my mind, EVA (Enterprise Vitual Array) is the best solution for your environment!
You can ask HP for the specification about EVA.
From now, HP has EVA 4000, EVA 6000, EVA 8000 series.
For detail, you can see on the attachment (total capacity etc....)
Hope this helps

Re: UPGRADE DISK STATION DS 2300
Forgot:
The other way that you can consider:
You can choose VA (Vitual Array) as the solution!
But I thing, VA now is end of life from HP :)
You can use VA7410.
The capacity can expand more than 800GB but the limit of VA is performance!
When using VA, you can reuse the current DS and all of your disks.
VA 7410 only support two kind of RAID DISKS:
1. RAID 0+1
2. AUTORAID (RAID 0+1 and RAID 5DP)
But with EVA, it support a new concept: Vitual RAID (Vraid) and it support three kind of Vraid:
1.Raid0
2.Raid0+1
3.Raid 5
Hope this helps

Re: UPGRADE DISK STATION DS 2300
You can also go for a RAID adapters in your server and then can attach MSA1000 or the recent attachment of that version. It supports upto 14 or 15 disks and each of them can be of the capacity of upto 146GB atleast.
If that much of total capacity is sufficient for you you can opt this. It is a cheap solution allthough and you sould also consider EVA's if suits your budget. This enclosures with fully populated will give you
146*14=2044 Raw Capacity &
2044*2/3=1362 GB in Raid5 with 2d,1P

Re: UPGRADE DISK STATION DS 2300
EVA 4000/6000/8000 storage systems yield high I/O performance. Depending on budget, you may chose the model. On servers, dual SAN adapters are recommended for high availibility

Solutionif you need an array to attach to your MC/SG cluster your best choice would most likely be the EVA4000, plus you need two FC switches, plus two FC HBAs per server.
and that is where your problems start since the rp3410 can use only two of the four PCI slots and most likely you already use both for SCSI shared storage (DS2300) and network connectivity.
so you would also have to upgrade the rp3410s to rp3440s to have all ├Г CI 4 slots available, then you could add FC HBAs, attach to the switches and EVA, mirror data through LVM, finally remove the mirror from the DS2300.

Bernhard

Re: UPGRADE DISK STATION DS 2300
You can install 14 disk in a DS2300
You said you have 8 disks, the other six slots are probably filled with dummies.
There is no disk size specified on these dummies. You can perfectly remove these dummies online.
