USB and DS10L

Hello
Is it a way to enable USB integrated host
on DS10L ?
If yes, I'll have a chance to use USB under Linux

Re: USB and DS10L

I know nothing, but on an XP1000, there's an
SRM variable:

>>>show *usb*
usb_enable OFF
>>>

I'd suggest investing $10 in a cheap-Chinese
PCI USB card with an NEC chip, but I know how
many PCI slots there are in a DS10L. (Which
is what has kept me from buying one.)

Re: USB and DS10L

Unfortunately,
DS10L firmware have no usb_enable variable.
Problem still here.

Did any DS10L owners not try USB on the back??

Hi,
As far as I am aware you will not be able to use the USB ports on the DS10L for anything.

Re: USB and DS10L

What are you looking to use the USB ports for ?

On Tru64 Unix the only thing that would (possibly) work is a keyboard or mouse.

No drivers were ever written for anything else, storage devices for example, as far as I'm aware.

I'm not sure what version of Linux you're looking to use on the DS10L but I somehow doubt that would differ to Tru64.

Cheers,

Rob

Do you have any evidence that "Linux" does or
does not support the USB chip on this system?

Do you have any evidence that the USB stuff
is actually disabled by the SRM firmware?
I can imagine that Tru64 can't use it, but
that's different from its being disabled at
some hardware/firmware level.

I would not be amazed if some Linux or other
offered better device support than Tru64 on
the same hardware. Graphics cards, for
example.

Re: USB and DS10L

Hello,
I decide to return to find a workaround to this problem,

I wish to use USB for anything I use in my home linux workstation. For a USBsound or flash memory for example, yeh?
Linux kernel supports a huge number of USB chipsets, so I'm *sure* if I can see an USB device in SRM
>>SHOW CONF

I be able to use it.
But still cant see.
Is it blocked or somewhat?

Re: USB and DS10L

BTW sometimes ago I had seen an USB device in SRM at 164SX board, but physically USB was not present on the board :)

I can't see _anything_ in your ">>SHOW CONF"
output. An XP1000 here says this:

The stuff in PCI slot 13 is the cheap Chinese
USB card with the NEC chip. (0x1033 is NEC,
0x0035 is the PD720100/PD720101 USB
chip. Look for 0x00351033 in your
SYS$SYSTEM:SYS$CONFIG.DAT file.)
