Unable to Change Kernal Parameter for HPUX 11.11

Hi All,

Could any advice me on this issue,

I am unable Change any Kernal Parameter for HPUX 11.11,resulting in Software Problem

Server Discription:-
OS: B.11.11, HW: 9000/800/L3000-5x RAM: 1536 MB

Please let me know what are the required information needs to be provided.

"I can't do something" is not a useful
problem report.


Doesn't "sam" provide a tool for changing
kernel parameters? Some parameters are
dynamic (changes take effect immediately),
and some are not (changes take effect after
reboot). Trying to guess what you don't know
is not my idea of a good time.

What happened when you did it.

So what happened when you did? Note this is still very small.

This isn't helpful. This happened when you ran your application or when you rebooted?
If the former, was nfile changed to 1300?

This Happened Once Server reboot after the kernal parameter change.<<<

If the former, was nfile changed to 1300?

No, That was the Customer ,issue they are not able to change any kernal paremeters in this Box.

so I requested downtime from the Customer and adviced we shall try changing any static kernal parameter.

So please advice why does it doesn't allow me to change any kernal parameter values?

The default value is computed at runtime and depends on the amount of physical memory on the system. For small memory systems (less than 1GB), the default is 16384, or 16K. For systems with more than 1GB of memory, the default is 65536, or 64K.

The minimum value allowed is 2048. The maximum value allowed is the maximum 32-bit signed integer value that can be represented in the system. The value is further constrained in that it must be equal to or greater than two times the per-process open file hard limit: (nfile >= 2*maxfiles_lim).

please check the /etc/conf/master.d/core-hpux for range specified for nfile.can you try with kmtune instead of sam and post the output

Try changing nfile to at least 16384.

It showed up inthe Console , mentioned earlier, was unable to capture becoz was using dump terminal .........
