Unable to change root password

Hello All,

Please find below my server details

# model
9000/800/A500-6X
# uname -a
HP-UX xyz B.11.11 U 9000/800 899920610 unlimited-user license

On this server I am trying to change the root password from current 8 character to 9 character. This new 9 character password is alpha numeric and has special characters. When I try to change the root password it fails me to authenticate. What can be the reason for the same?

Thanks,
Kaps

Re: Unable to change root password

Do not use # or @ character in password. See the WARNING section in man page - http://docs.hp.com/en/B3921-90010/passwd.1.html

Re: Unable to change root password

Unless you are trusted, you can only have 8 char passwords, any more is truncated.
