Unable to delete a printers defined in SAM

Hi,

Please find the screen dump attached. I am unable to remove or diable the printer, since they are not configured properly. It gives the below error message. Have checked for a spooler backup and could find validone.

Used even the command to delete the printers and could not do, since it says
: lpadmin -xzebr
lpadmin: destination "zebr" non-existent

"A problem occurred doing "lpadmin -xZMS0". Stderr from this command is "/usr/sbin/lpadmin: destination "ZMS0" non-existent".
Unable to remove printer "ZMS0" because of above error(s)"

Please help me.

Thanks,
Sat

What's the OS and version number of the print-server you're using?
I can see it's not a Windows server, but there it stops.

Removing 'orphaned' printers differ with various operating systems.

Sorry, I don't have any experience with HP-UX at all, so I can't help you with this.
Let's hope someone else can?

Re: Unable to delete a printers defined in SAM

Have you a previous consistent copy of your spooling? You can make periodic copies of your spooling system by SAM or lpmgr command, in this way if you have issues you can recover your last full-operative spooling system. I suggest you adopt this best practice rule.

Is this spooling system critical for your production?
Have you another hp-ux box with similar spooling definitions?

By saving and recovering spooling systems options we can migrate or replicate a foreing spoling system to replace your current corrupted spooling system. Is a drastic way but may work.

Rgds.

Re: Unable to delete a printers defined in SAM

Hi,

This is just a dev server. I will copy the spool config from test server to dev and try to fix this issue.

Thanks for your help.

Re: Unable to delete a printers defined in SAM

In your foreing server execute this:
#usr/sam/lbin/lpmgr -S -xsavedir=/var/sam/lp
Then tar the /var/sam/lp directory and put on your current server.

In your current server ensure that a /var/sam/lp not exists, then untar the file tranferred from foreging server. Confirm that /var/sam/lp have been created in your current system. Execute the following command:
#/usr/sam/lbin/lpmgr -R -xsavedir=/var/sam/lp

After this you have replicated your spooling system and must work fine.

If your printer names requires name resolution to work please do not forget copy the involved entries from foreing /etc/hosts file.
