Upgrade from 11iv1 to 11iv2 !1

I am upgrading from 11iv1 to 11iv2

1. How do I find out whether or not those external LVM structures and file systems will be accessible to the server after it is updated to 11.23?
2. do i need to take some action on installed some software after upgrade so that those will be available after upgrade ?

thanks in advance

Hi Titu,

1. Need to take vg configuration backup, map files.
2. No not necessary, check for upgrade completes with out any errors.

Thanks,

Re: Upgrade from 11iv1 to 11iv2 !1

Hi Titu:

An update, or a cold-install, isn't going to corrupt LVM structures or filesystems on other non-vg00 volumes unless you specifically target them.

In the case of a cold-install, you 'vgexport' your non-vg00 volume groups before you begin, using the '-s' and '-m' options. The mapfile can then be copied off the server to be cold-installed; the Ignite installation performed; the mapfile(s) copied back to a temporary directory like '/tmp' on the newly built server; and lastly a 'vgimport' run using the mapfile thus reloaded. This will discover the LVM signitures on the attached disk and build a new '/etc/lvmtab' with all volume groups.

There are a number of more detailed explanations. Search this formum for 'vgimport' and 'cold-install'. See also, the manpages for 'vgimport' and 'vgexport'.

You might want to look at other threads suggesting you do a cold install.

You should also read the Release Notes for 11.23 and Installation manuals:

Hi:

I should add, that whether or not you choose to cold-install or use 'update-ux' to migrate from 11.11 to 11.23, read this guide:

http://www.docs.hp.com/en/5992-1978/ch03s02.html

In my opinion, given a choice, a cold-install is the cleanest, safest path to take.
