Aye, for anyone interested in 11iv2 to 11iv3 upgrade, the Update-UX fails on following:

Facts:
- rx4640 system, root disks internal, LVM'd + mirrored
-source OS version: 11iv2 December 2008 patch bundle
- upgrade target OS version: 11iv3 September 2009 media, all 3 DVD's swcopied to a disk depot /data3/hpux

Symptoms:
- when running update-ux -i -s server:/data3/hpux, it stops with:

# update-ux -i -s server:/data3/hpux

======= Thu Dec 3 16:40:16 EET 2009 BEGIN update-ux

NOTE: Interactive mode has started (-i was specified)
The interactive UI will appear after update preparation steps are
complete. This may take several minutes.

Okay, these are in /opt/swm/transition/lbin, add to /etc/PATH. Then next issue:

/opt/swm/transition/TUI/OEoverview.init:15: command not found: TUIController

Okay, add /opt/swm/transition/TUI to /etc/PATH.

After thesee manual mods, TUI finally started and update-ux proceeded as expected.

Mikko,

Thanks for the info.

We're not updating all things to 11.31 just yet, but I will keep this in my 'future things' should I hit it when we do.

Regards,
Rita

Shalom,

Yet another reason not to use update-ux.

It is not good at updating complex systems.

cold install followed by application re-installation is the way to go.

Aye, have heard that elsewhere as well.

However, I did upgrade another rx4640 little over year ago, that went relatively smoothly. These are not overly complex boxes, so I'm currently keeping fingers crossed.

Aye, update went quite nicely after these smallish issues. A few applications needed upgrade afterwards (HP-GCC etc) but on the whole it was successful.
