Used Clone LUNs. However /dev/disk/diskXXX changes all the time

Good morning,

We  have clone LUNs that we use to  for DR testing. We have been using legacy DSFfor some time, and this is the first time have to use the the persistent DSF. Looks like the persistent DSFs ( /dev/disk/diskXXXX) keeps changing every time we export our DF VGs and re-do our clone LUNs.

Is there a way to keep the persistent DSFs re-use the same names  "/dev/disk/diskXXX"? Maybe I'm missing something.

Thanks,

f. halili

Do you remove the device files prior to remove the clone (rmsf ...)?

Hope this helps!

The clone was un-presented, and the host was rebooted. We did not do an rmsf

What sort of disk array are you using? Is it an EVA by any chance? Sounds like you disk array is creating each cloned LUN with a new WWID, which will of course look like an entirely new LUN to HP-UX11iv3. There are ways around this if this is an EVA...

Yes we are using an EVA ( 4100 ). As we create a snapshot disk we use the same LUN ID number and present it to the host to be consistent.

So what suppose to happen is make a snap, present, import the disks to the vg and mount. But now everytime we snap, and present, the /dev/disk/diskXXXX changes.
