Vpar copy from non-vpar system

Hi everyone

Is it possible to make a clone of a non-vpar system in a vpar with a make_recovery from the non-vpar?

Thanks,

Re: Vpar copy from non-vpar system

There is one problem:

The vPar software must be included in the image to be able to boot in a vPar environment.

You can either install the software in the source system or do an install of the image and the software on the target system while this system is in non-vpar mode.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: Vpar copy from non-vpar system

So I put the make_recovery tape in the vpar device and do a
vparboot -B [tape_hw_path] ?
And there is no problem with the kernel of the source system not being a relocated one?
What do you mean with installing the software on the target system while this system is in non-vpar mode?

Re: Vpar copy from non-vpar system

The kernel must be relocatable.

You can shutdown all vPars, switch to non-vPar mode if needed (Integrity), boot the system in standalone from tape, boot, install vPar software and finally create a new vpar if needed and boot in vpar mode.

Hope this helps!

Re: Vpar copy from non-vpar system

Wow...
That won't be possible...because it is a nPar with 4 vpars and I can not bring the others down.
I "only" want to turn one of the vpars in a clone of a non-vpar system...

Re: Vpar copy from non-vpar system

You may consider to install the software on the source system to make the kernel relocatable.

Hope this helps!

Re: Vpar copy from non-vpar system

Hi Ramones,

You cannot clone non vpar system in a vpar.
I suppose you should one good copy in a ignite-ux server ?

You need to schedule down time to switch to non vpar mode and perform make_tape_recovery

Re: Vpar copy from non-vpar system

Indeed it is.
I meant that I still have a problem because the answer was the one I expected but was also undesirable.
I hope you understand my macaronic english.
