VxVM root mirroring - failing root disc

Greetings,
I have cold installed an 11i system
with VxVM management of the root volumes.
After completing installation and adding local customisations I tried to set up root mirroring
to a spare drive. However this process stalled
on the /opt volume; due to an IO error with the root disc.
I know the bad block number:

rootdisk01-06 block 525248 i

and the file containing it:

/opt/ignite/data/Rel_B.11.11/SYSCMDS

Is there a method to re-run mirroring
without reading this block - would deleting
the file help in this situation?

Re: VxVM root mirroring - failing root disc

If this is a root mirror disk you should really call it into HP support and get it swapped!

Chances are if you have a bad block now, you will get more down the line. Chances also are, when you need to boot of your mirror because your primary died, that's when your extra bad blocks will appear!

You know it makes sense...

I have a third drive, that could
replace the failing root but, without
mirroring to my second drive, I am left
in a system recovery scenario.

Re: VxVM root mirroring - failing root disc

I did delete the file containing the bad block: I was then able to create an Ignite
network recovery archive that includes the entire /opt volume.
System can now be recovered to a replacement
drive: then will try again to mirror.
