What about EVA autopath software when migrating from 11iv2 to 11iv3

Bonjour,

Silly question, but what happens with EVA autopath software active/active (HPswsp in swlist) when doing an update-ux from 11iv2 to 11iv3 ?

Due to 11iv3 native multipating there is no need to have autopath installed. So what happens if I do an update-ux asis :

- autopath will be automatically uninstalled
- autopath will be still present after the update-ux but it doesn't matter.
- autopath will be still present after the update-ux and IT DO MATTER. It should have been uninstalled before doing doing the update-ux.

No idea what will happen if you don't do anything ...

I would do an vgexport, uninstall autopath, update ux and finally vgimport the vg's (assuming the boot path is not using autopath).

I always mix up securepath/autopath a bit, but IIRC autopath is using the same device files than it would without this product, so you can safely uninstall it, you loose load balancing only. But this doesn't matter while updating.

update-ux is not been proven to be very reliable, for many versions of the OS.

If you choose to use it, instead of the more recommended cold OS install, then I would expect it to take care of this issue. However, first thing I'd do after the update is check the logs to see what was done, so you don't get unexpected results.

@SEP : I also do prefer doing a cold install. But in this case we have to migrate in a very short period, less than 12 hours. And we would have too many things to configure back after a cold install. And yes, I also agree with checking logs files : it is a must :-)

Anyway, I will try to negotiate a longer downtime with my client to do a fresh install, but I am afraid he won't agree :-(
