What is Enterprise Operating Environment?

I have found HP documentation that denotes BOE, HA-OE, VSE-OE, and DC-OE - but I've encountered a customer situation where swlist shows 'Enterprise Operating Environment'??

Additionally, any thoughts as to why there would be different behavior on a binary running on a different patch level of BOE (.0809 v .0903) or different OEs?

On the patch level, I can imagine something was fixed/broken in the patch, but what about between OEs - as the documentation I have seems to imply that each OE is a superset of the BOE.

Re: What is Enterprise Operating Environment?

Table 4 at page 9 will tell you the difference about the bundles:

http://h20565.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?sp4ts.oid=3367813&docId=emr_na-c04221802&docLocale=en_US

the version like 14.03 means march (03) 2014 (14) release and is not just a patch level, but a complete release.

The document will tell you all the details, next release is expected end of march 2015.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: What is Enterprise Operating Environment?

Torsten,

Thank you for the information, but the documentation you pointed me to only mentions the four (4) OEs I originally mentioned.  My customer is finding:

hp4640-2# swlist HPUX*OE*
# Initializing...
# Contacting target "hp4640-2"...
#
# Target: hp4640-2:/
#

# HPUX11i-OE B.11.31 HP-UX Foundation Operating Environment

What is a Foundation Operating Environment?

Re: What is Enterprise Operating Environment?

Something like this?

HPUX11i-OE                            B.11.31.0709   HP-UX Foundation Operating Environment

This example is the september 2007 release, your customer should find the complete line including the date, it is probably very old. Maybe it is even the initial release.

IIRC the naming was changed in 2008 or 2009.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: What is Enterprise Operating Environment?

Foundation OE is now called the BASE OE (BOE).

When they OE's were renamed (whenever that was) they became:

Foundation OE (FOE) & the Technical Computing OE (TCOE) = Base OE (BOE)

Enterprise OE (EOE) = Virtual Server OE (VSE-OE)

Mission Critical OE (MCOE) = Data Center OE (DC-OE)

There is also a High Availability OE (HA-OE) now.

Here's a very good map of the OE's for each version of HP-UX 11i (v1, v2 & v3).
