Where is /etc/issue called in 11.23?

Hi:

I'm trying to turn off /etc/issue which is sually found being cat'ed out in /etc/profile or bannered from sshd_config or inetd.conf. BUT ITS NOT THERE!

What am I missing?

Login via ssh.

Re: Where is /etc/issue called in 11.23?

Hi:

Look at '/etc/motd'. In '/opt/ssh/etc/sshd_config' you can turn this off with:

PrintMotd no

Regards!

That file doesn't exist, and banner /etc/issue is commented out in /etc/ssh/sshd_config.

Very odd.

Re: Where is /etc/issue called in 11.23?

I'm not an expert but does your sshd_config file look like?
#PrintMotd no
# no default banner path
#Banner /etc/issue

what happens if you zero out /etc/issue or change the banner path?
settings in .profile instead of /etc/profile?

/sbin/init.d/secsh stop/start

Re: Where is /etc/issue called in 11.23?

Shalom,

There is no motd file on my 11.23 system, but the /opt/ssh/etc/sshd_config does contain the option that should suppress.

If that is not working, it could be the version of Secure Shell.

On my hpvm based lab, that change to sshd_config, recommended by JRF works.

Re: Where is /etc/issue called in 11.23?

Well, I've assigned points for what would have been the correct answers if using the standard openssh package.

But while checking the installed ssh package as SEP suggested revealed a non-standard packaged developed by local programmers.

Using this as a point of reference led me to the correct file location.

Thanks SEP!
