Which Integrity servers support LPars with HP-UX?

I can't seem to find much info about logical partitions

Re: Which Integrity servers support LPars with HP-UX?

Looks like NPAR is identical to LPAR.....just vendor terminology perhaps?

Re: Which Integrity servers support LPars with HP-UX?

*No* HP Integrity Server support LPars, as that's an IBM product!

If you mean vPars/nPars then thats the rx86x0, the rx76x0 and the Integrity Superdome.

If you mean HP Integrity Virtual Machines or Secure Resource Partitions, the whole range supports them.

Re: Which Integrity servers support LPars with HP-UX?

And nPars are *definately not* functionally equivalent to IBM LPars. LPars offer software isolation only, whereas nPars are electrically isolated from each other. Suffer a CPU machine check on an LPAR's p595 and the whole system will come down (all LPARS). Suffer the same problem on a nPar'd Superdome and only the nPar with the ffected CPU will see a problem.

*Big* difference when looking to consolidate!

Re: Which Integrity servers support LPars with HP-UX?

The basic IBM LPARs with dedicated hardware are similar to HP vPars in functionality, but the LPAR hypervisor is in firmware and the vPars hypervisor is a software install.

"Advanced Power Virtualization" or "PowerVM" or whatever IBM decides to call it this week is closer in principle to Integrity Virtual Machine. But LPAR is much more similar to vPars than PowerVM is to IVM. IVM is more similar to VMWare.

Re: Which Integrity servers support LPars with HP-UX?

nPars = hardware partitioning ( implemented on cell based servers , rx7xxx, rx8xxx

vPars = sofware partions with sofware isolation down to the HBA/FRU ( implemented on just about anything IA or PA with enough HW components)

IVM(Integrity Virtual Machines) = Virtualized sharing of all HW resourcses down to the tick of a CPU. ( implemented on any IA server )

docs.hp.com has just about all the docs you would need to read.
