X Server Configuration

Dear Friends,
I am facing problems while configuring Xserver under RedHat Linux 6.2.
I am not able to configure it at all (not even with 640*480).

H/W CONFIG: HARMONY MBD based on 810e Chipset/CEL@466 MHz/32MB RAM/ 4GB HDD/KBD/MOUSE/14" SAMTRON COLOUR MONITOR.

S/w DETAILS : RedHat Linux 6.2 / Xfree86 3.3.6

I browsed the Xfree86.org(which provides drivers for display cards under
linux) and www.intel.com to check the compatibility issues . Intel site
has provided some rpms to be downloaded(I810Gtt-0_1-6_src.rpm and
XFCom-i810-glibc2_1-1_0_0-rh60_i386.rpm) ,i have loaded these rpms
but then too i am not able to configure the Xserver. Whenever i start the
Xserver it just crashes.

I was informed by kalyanda and Satyam that IRC has already checked for
this compatibility issues . So,Please send me the drivers along with the
procedure to configure X server with 1024*768 resolution.

For any further information required please contact us.

Re: X Server Configuration

Sanjiv,

Red Hat 6.2 left out the video module for the the Intel 810. The one file that you mentioned I810Gtt-0_1-6_src.rpm is a Source Code module. Was it compiled? Here's a better answer to your problem.

Goto http://www.redhat.com/support/errata/rh62-errata-bugfixes.html

Included ontop of the list is the instructions for the i810. I have attached it for your review.

Hope this solves your problem.

Re: X Server Configuration

The Intel site also has a file with step by step instructions on how to apply the rpm's for the Intel 810/810e chip set. Look for the instructions on the same site.

The problem is that RedHat forgot to include the agpgart.o module with 6.2. RedHat has posted an errata file, which should also have very specific step by step instructions available from the Red Hat web site. Either the RedHat or Intel update will work.

Depending on the instructions you may need to run XConfigurator after the rpm's.

Re: X Server Configuration

Dear Albert/David,

Thanks for your reply.

" Intel site has provided some rpms to be downloaded (I810Gtt-0_1-6_src.rpm and
XFCom-i810-glibc2_1-1_0_0-rh60_i386.rpm) ,i have loaded these rpms
but then too i am not able to configure the Xserver. Whenever i start
the Xserver it just crashes . "

In the above two rpms "I810Gtt-0_1-6_src.rpm " is an "RPM containing
agpgart.o source"

I cross checked this one with "lsmod" command which says the agpart.o
module is loaded.

Pls. help me solve this.

Re: X Server Configuration

Sanjiv,

I am now confused.

Did you follow the RedHat instructions I attached on my previous message? It includes step by step proceedures. Please print it, and reply when you've followed it. I would even consider removing all of the XFree*rpm and re-installing them.

Hope that helps.
