X-Windows Client

Anyone know of a user friendly, system admin friendly, free, x-windows client that I can use so that my users will not have to use the ancient telnet. Please something other than putty !!!

Re: X-Windows Client

I assume you mean for a Windows-based machine; please look at:

http://cygwin.com/xfree/

It's not perfect, but it's really pretty good and we like it. In addition to the X server (the clients run on the HP-UX box :), they also have a whole miniature UNIX environment for a Windows box.

There are probably others...

Whoops, forgot which forum I was in -- the clients run on the Tru64 box. :)

Re: X-Windows Client

Hi Mic,

you were right with your suggestion. Paul was looking for a X-Windows server, not a client.

Re: X-Windows Client

if you are looking for a X-Server on Windows, have a look into the Microsoft Unix Services software. This software is free and available via Microsoft Webpage, containing also an X-Server implementation.

Btw. a "client" within the X11 naming is not the software used for displaying the output of another machine. A X-Server is the piece of software doing that. The X11 client funktionality is activated out of the box at Tru64 side....
