X server not responding

whether I use exceed or putty to connect to my HP9000 RP7440 server I get the same results...
When I origianlly sign on to the server (through my UID) it connects with the xserver(PC) Hovever when I su to another user (root) I can not get the xserver to communicate I get the following message
Xlib: PuTTY X11 proxy: MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1 data did not match Any ideas???

You more than likely do not the MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE for your xserver set in root's ~/.Xauthority. See if root has anything in that file. I think you should be able to copy the ~/.Xauthority file of the other user to root's home directory. Otherwise, you will have to add it. This link may help:
