X-station question

Hello All,
We have an X-station which we use to connect to our hp boxes. Now i need to look for a replacement strategy (machine or software for this).Could you please some one let me know if HP workstation will be suitable for this. But i have heard that c8000 is the only low end hp workstation but that too does not run 11.23. WE are thinking about reflection kind of software emulation .Please share with me if you know more info regarding this.
Thanks

Re: X-station question

I have been using "WRQ's Reflection X" for almost 10 years now.

Hummingbird is another one I have seen used by others.

Re: X-station question

WRQ has Reflection-X, Hummingbird has Exceed, KEA has a product as well (I believe).

just check their respective websites. I've used both Reflection and Exceed. Both work well.

Re: X-station question

I'm not sure from your response that you understand. The X-station doesn't run the terminal emulation software. The X-station goes away and you run the emulation software on your PC, under Windows.

Re: X-station question

If you want the exact same setup, i.e. an X Terminal to remotely display X11 applications and not run anything else, you can use Linux with a low-end PC for that purpose. Googling for "linux X terminal" will come up with lots of info.

However most people now use PCs for that purpose with an X Server software, you alreay read bout Reflection or Exceed in earlier posts, in my case I chose Starnet X-Win32 for our PCs. There is also a free one available named Xming, but I don't know if it works well. Try them all, get quotes and choose whatever's best for you.

Good luck

Re: X-station question

Hi:

If you use Windows PCs download the *free* 'Xming' :

Re: X-station question

You can also use VNC and have the X server run on the HP-UX box and be CDE like. The VNC client can run on windows or from a web browser.

Re: X-station question

Don't forget the Cygwin X server, for Windows.

It is free, as in no cost and no license needed, too.
