XDMCP not broasdcasting

I have RedHat 7.0 running kdm but I cannot see it listed on my PC running xceed. I can only assume that XDMCP is not broadcasting the way it should. Is there any way to check this?

Re: XDMCP not broasdcasting

David,

You need to configure the Xserver to use the -broadcast option.

Do a Man on Xserver, find your configuration file, and restart the XServer.

Hope that helps.

Re: XDMCP not broasdcasting

I started x with X - broadcast and I got the login for a machine running Solaris sitting next to it. Could there more to it than that?

Re: XDMCP not broasdcasting

David,

Yes, for starters there is more to it than that.

You may need to exmaine the XServer Man Pages on the Linux Server (I am not running RedHat 7.0 (but rather LinuxMandrake 7.1). In any case XDMCP is not normally a Routable protocol.

You may need to use indirect mode, or specify the nodes that you wish to enable.

The point is, now you have a Solaris box sitting next to it seeing the Boradcast, correct? This is a good start, because I do not think that you were this far along earlier.

Correct?

Have a Great Day. Happy X Windowing!

Please feel free to let me know if I can assist further.

Re: XDMCP not broasdcasting

You need to get xdm going on your Redhat machine. X -broadcast just makes your Linux doing exactly what Exceed does.

xdm takes take of XDMCP requests.

Re: XDMCP not broasdcasting

Whenever I start xdm I see that X is started with the -auth /path/to/auth/file. How do I tell xdm to include -broadcast when it fires off X?

Re: XDMCP not broasdcasting

There is a file that is stored in either /etc/X11/xdm or on some systems /var/x11/xdm that enables the chooser, I forget at the moment.
I think you should check Xaccess and there are other files in that dir that contain info on the chooser setup.
