XManager problem in HPUX 11.23 server

Hi All,

I'm not able to login into my newly installed HPUX11.23 server.

When i give the username and password through XManager it accepts and gets logged into the session. Finally i end up with the following error message.

When i press the ok buttion it exits from the screen.
============================================
Action Required
============================================
The Desktop messaging system could not be started
To correct the problem
1. Choose OK to return to the login screen
2. Select failsafe session from the login screens option menu and login
3. Check to see if the Desktop properly installed, the hostname is correct (/etc/hosts) and that the network is properly configured
For additional information, see the CDE's user guide

Thanks in Advance
Din

Yes. Follow what it says

Select failsafe session from the login screens option menu and login

Check if the hostname to IP addressing mapping is done in /etc/hosts

This should be done for Windows as well as Hp-UX host

Verify the same via nslookup command

If nsswitch.conf does not exits, do
cp /etc/nsswitch.files /etc/nsswitch.conf

Yes, I have already gone by the instuctions and failed to get a solution.

I did copying nsswitch.files to nsswitch.conf

After doing this, i dont even get login prompt.

Thanks

Are you using DNS, if yes, please do the following

In /etc/resolv.conf add the DNS server

In /etc/nsswitch.conf change

hosts: files

to

hosts: files
ipnodes: files

Then check if nslookup
nslookup resolves fine,.

As you said, i have made an entry of DNS in /etc/resolv.conf and in /etc/nsswitch.conf.

But i still get the same error.

Are they secret? It might help if you provided them.

Re: XManager problem in HPUX 11.23 server

Yes, Finally i found there was an error in setting the primary name resolver.

in SAM i have changed SAM->Networking and COmmunications->Name service switch->First source to /etc/hosts.

Finally it was working...

Thanks everyone for their co-operation.

Thanks,
Din
