I have a printer on the network that I can ping from the OS, but what next?

How do I add print queues in Tru-64?

I did try searching and it kept coming up with HPUX or printer specific stuff, not what I was after.

I am still no clearer on what i should do.

I'll try searching again.

Can you just tell me if this is using a remote machine or not, i.e. do I need anything in the rm symbol or do I put loacl server name in there, rp is lp right?

if I set it up with these names then i need to use lpr?

Unfortunately, the answer to your question is very much printer specific. In order to even guess at what the /etc/printcap entry should look like you'll need to know:

- What type of printer is it
- What protocol(s) does is support
- What network ports does the printer use
- What data format(s) does the printer support

The /usr/sbin/printconfig utility will sort of walk you through the process and for the more common printer types will generally come up with a good answer, but it's not at all unusual to need to tweak things after running printconfig.

The configuration depends of the protocol/server that supports the printer.
