advfsd (5.1B-3)

Is it ok to kill advfsd if you don't care about any ADVfs GUI tools? It is consuming a high level of CPU while I perform an rmvol operation.

yes. you might also want to kill smsd (sysman station gui) which also pokes at advfs domains. both daemons impact performance and are not needed unless you admin with the gui.

Yes, it's safe (and recommended) to disable the service.

Do this:

/sbin/init.d/advfsd stop
mv /sbin/rc3.d/S53advfsd /sbin/rc3.d/disable.S53advfsd
