assigning dvd to a virtual server

the ioscan shows i have the following dvd device:
disk 0 0/0/2/1.0.16.0.0 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE TEAC DV-28E-N
/dev/dsk/c0t0d0 /dev/rdsk/c0t0d0
that i would like to attach to one of my virtual servers.

can anyone give me the actual hpvmmodify command i can use to do this ?

i tried this :
hpvmmodify -P artemis -a dvd:scsi:0,0,1:disk:/dev/rdsk/c0t0d0

and got the following error

hpvmmodify: WARNING (artemis): Disk or disk partition: /dev/rdsk/c0t0d0 has a size of zero, and may not show up in or be usable by the guest when booted.
hpvmmodify: ERROR (artemis): Duplicate backing device '/dev/rdsk/c0t0d0'.
hpvmmodify: ERROR (artemis): Unable to add device '/dev/rdsk/c0t0d0'.
hpvmmodify: Unable to create device dvd:scsi:0,0,1:disk:/dev/rdsk/c0t0d0.
hpvmmodify: Unable to modify the guest.

Re: assigning dvd to a virtual server

From what I see this means that the same device is already presented to another VM. You can either remove it from the other VM or use hpvmdevmgmt to make it shareable.

I also suggest you make a .iso if it's a DVD you plan on presenting often, you'll have much better read performance.

Re: assigning dvd to a virtual server

Shalom,

With the dvd mounted:

dd if=/dvd,of=/tmp/iso

Add block size and count as needed.

Also you can merely remove presentation of the DVD to the other virtual machine.

Re: assigning dvd to a virtual server

hpvmmodify -P artemis -a dvd:scsi::null:/dev/rdsk/c0t0d0

Try above.

The first line is just a warning - I assume you have already added this device to the HPVM.

According to the manual (and the post above this) you should create a NULL device and INsert the media using the vMP INsert command.

Hope this helps!

Re: assigning dvd to a virtual server

hpvmmodify -P artemis -a dvd:scsi::null:/dev/rdsk/c0t0d0 seemed to work.. i got this warning:
HPVM guest artemis configuration problems:
Warning 1 on item /dvd: '/dvd' backing device does not exist.
These problems may prevent HPVM guest artemis from starting.
hpvmmodify: The modification process is continuing.

when i checked with hpvmstatus -P artemis i saw:
dvd scsi 0 1 0 7 0 null /dev/rdsk/c0t0d0..

i'm assuming i can now do a mount command on Artemis to used the dvd..
