08/19 15:24:50(8687) - (ScanMergeSendLock) Failed in semaphore
operation (No space left on device)
We have restarted a number of time both the ARCserve backup server and
the ARCserve client agent on hpux server. But this did not fix the problem.
Please assign this to the UNIX team to investigate and recommend a
solution.

The "No space left on device" error looks suspicious to me. Have you checked that? Whatever device this is writing to appears to be out of space.

Re: backup failing
If you don't know the target directory or device, do a bdf on the server to see which of the file systems appears to be full.
We have no knowledge of how your systems are set up... but it seems likely that the backup server (which may also be the client in this instance - we can't tell) has run out of space on some device and the agent software (the bit that is trying to copy the data) is reporting this fact.
