Re: backup tool for Red hat

Shalom,

amanda is a built in tool for backing up files, but not a bootable image.

See:
http://www.acronis.com for a good pay for option.

http://www.mondorescue.org for a good free option.

Re: backup tool for Red hat

For my money and time, I recommend mondorescue. It is simple to install, easy to create an image, and flexible enough to allow a wide range of image storage options.

System Imager or the SIS suite is a bit more involved to setup, but works well in large enterprise environments.

I haven't worked with Partimage, so I will disqualify myself on that product. Acronis, or one of the follow on adaptations are also involved to setup.

If you are just looking for a quick distaster recovery vehicle for under 10 systems, then look at mondorescue.org.

Re: backup tool for Red hat

I also used both. Clonezilla is good for cloning, that is, doing an exact image including disk partitions and sizes.

If you want more flexibility, you should use mondo, where you can restore using different disks sizes and modify your partition layout.

But, for Linux, is enough if you just tar/star every OS file system and then booting in rescue mode to restore the data and reinstall grub.

Re: backup tool for Red hat

Mondo is a very good tool. I have setup ignite recovery(hp-ux) like infrastructure for around 35 Linux servers with bootable iso image and backup iso stored on nfs.

Also, I use mondo images for deploying new servers .. same way as above.

after all it is a hp supported project

Re: backup tool for Red hat

guy sorry If I bothering you too much

I just want to know to create an image any of those tools let me do it online or live while the server is still running or I have to take it offline this is I read something about

Acronis® Backup & Recovery⠢ 10 Server for Linux

and it says
Live disk snapshots with support for databases and server applications
Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 takes a â snapshotâ of the disk using Acronisâ patented disk imaging technologies, eliminating the need to take a server offline for a backup.

or to get that functionality I need to but that Acrionis tool?

thanks a lot
