I think that you can't restore a vdump backup on HP-UX. But you can tar in tru64 and untar in HP-UX for sure. Use tar instead of dump.

Probably not. I don't have an HP-UX system,
but on Solaris (SunOS 5.9) "ufsrestore"
fails:

ung# ufsrestore tf /net/urtx/bzip2-1_0_3b_vms.vd
Volume is not in dump format

As already suggested, "tar" should work in
most cases.

Hi ChewSP,

vdump was specially created to backup AdVFS filesystems and restore using vrestore. How ever vdump can backup UFS/NFS also. There is no corresponding vrestore available in HP-UX which can restore your saveset.

You intend to backup data in a filesystem or a raw disk?

Pl. provide more information about your requirement. Ppl. (Migration team) should be able to help you.

On a HPUX with VxFS (Veritas Filesystem)installed, the equivalent of Tru64's vrestore, would be vxrestore....

Have no experience or info though on the compatibility between vdump created tapes and vxrestore.
