can not see tape drives from HP UX 11.11

HI,

we have remove msl 6060. replace with 8096

Old four drives showing as no_hw after replacement as it is disconnected. order is /dev/rmt/1m /dev/rmt/2m /dev/rmt/3m /dev/rmt/4m. from the new four drives we are getting additional two drives /dev/rmt/5m /dev/rmt/6m that is drive 1 and 2 of new msl. we have tested cabling, is ok. Zoning is ok . but no info about other two drives ?

Hi

first, you can remove old device files with "rmsf -H hardware_path".
Second one, if cabling is ok, and zoning too, you can revise mapping in msl.

i don't want to remove old hardware path for roll back issue. NO NSR card for MSL 8096. no mapping.

did you try "insf -e" to see new HW ?

Sorry, I understand you delete original devices.
The connection is SCSI?
In this case, you can revise scsi address and where is plug (if there is internal devices in that channel)
also, like says Hakki, you must do "ioscan" and "insf"

i didn't try insf -e . because os not detecting the device. once it get the device without device file i i can try with insf -e.

When you plug a new device, there is 2 ways to see, first is booting system, the other one is with ioscan. Unless you do an ioscan, the new devices not appear in the system, after this, to create new device files, "insf" and to recreate all device files "insf -e"
Can you post a schema of connections?

How were you sure that OS did not recognize the device ?
Did you make ?
# ioscan -fnCtape

and you did not see the device ?
