can not see tape drives from HP UX 11.11

Just to hopefully add clarification. ioscan will NOT display the devices correctly until the device files are created. insf -e MUST be run to create the device files. As mentioned previously this can also be done via a system reboot. Part of the reboot run insf automatically.

I respectfully disagree.

insf can only work for devices visible to the server, so an ioscan is required.



However, I would like to see an "ioscan -fn" of the system. Then I would
- remove the old device files, do an ioscan again
- check all connections again (switch zoning etc)
- check which of the 4 drives are currently visible (compare the serial#)
- check with LTT ( http://www.hp.com/support/tapetools )

I agree you will see hardware of some type with ioscan before you run insf -e, however, it will not necessarily be recognized as a tape drive until you have run insf -e. So ioscan -fnC tape would not necessarily show these devices.

Hi all,

- i can not reboot server.
- if i can see two drives why not other two?
- any issue with hpux 11.11 or MSL 8096
- as old device file exist, any issue with that?(cant remove old for roll back)
- any issue like , hp ux cant show more that
/dev/rmt/6m? i mean can hpux count 7m,8m etc

main concern is without anything only with #ioscan -fn i can see two (drive 1 and 2) but cant see drive 3 and 4. why?

have you checked the dmesg and syslog for more info?

Can you post cabling?
Are the cables comprobed?
Could be a HW problem? you can change cables to test it
