check user status
I am new in Linux . Can someone tell me how to check user locks status in linux like getprpw command in HP-UX.

Depends on what kind of Linux you are using.
Red Hat has a nice GUI called system-config-users
There is a system-config for many common tasks.

what is the command in CLI mode? I am not authorized to use GUI.

passwd -S
chage -l
The first command will tell you whether the account is locked or not.
The second command will display password/account expiration times.

"chage -l" is the better one. The account gets locked due to multple reason. As far i know the chage covers those lock reasons and displays

Password Expires: Mar 29, 2008
Password Inactive: Apr 28, 2008
Account Expires: Never
