And well, if I knew I could technically have a VxFS filesystem for /stand I would have tried the exact same thing.

Besides the advantages of vxfs there's also the 'thorn in my eye' aspect, which makes me want journaling etc. on this admittedly small filesystem even more :)

Very interesting thread, although sorry for your hassle, RAC. Can't say I'm not curious about how this one turns out.

RAC, if you're digging into this instead of reinstalling, drop me an email - if you want to. my memory is far from perfect, but I think I'll remember the solutions to whatever you stumble on with this. it was really tricky to redo lvlnboot on the unbootable box, but it's doable :)
