Hi:

You wouldn't if you perform the copy as the root user. That said, the ability to add or delete files to a directory is governed by the directory's permission. Write-permission on the directory is necessary in your case.

Did you think that adding read and execute
permissions would help you to _write_
something?

Who is "i"? Who owns what?

man chmod
man ls
man

Re: copying files from home dir

Make sure you have "Root Admin" access to the Server,

Backup first the files, than you can do what ever you want do.

Login As root:-

#cp -p
#mv
#chmod rw-r-r --> take_note you need follow exisitng file permission
#chown : -> take_note you need follow exisitng file Owner & group

man cp
man mv
man chmod
man chown

for more information - Looks Examples On man pages of the above commands

Problems are common to all, but attitude makes the difference

Re: copying files from home dir

i have found the solution ,,

apart from this i have a doubt

is it possiable to access a oracle home dir by every one in the same group with home dir permission as drwx------.(default)

oracle is in the group dbs
so other users in the group dbs need to access it without any restriction,, but users from other group should have access pemission.

Not unless you have ACLs.
Otherwise you need: drwxr?x---
Where ? is "w" if needed.

>so other users in the group dbs need to access it without any restriction

Then you would need ACLs if you want two special "groups" of users, oinstall and dbs.
