Re: crashed hard disk
since this HDD used for HPux you should not able to map in windows, even ubantu will not recognize.
as mentioned by Bill you should connect this HDD with any existing working unix station and do ioscan -fnC disk command to check if it able to detect.

Re: crashed hard disk
I take it the workstation is up and running and has 10.20 installed on the new disk.
You could get an external scsi disk caddy and put the old disk in there then connect it to the workstation.
Once that is done you can try to get at the data on the disk.
When you say the disk crashed, was it a hardware failure or an operating system problem?

Re: crashed hard disk
>>I think the problem is a software problem<<
If the system crashed due to software problem, hopefully all data should be there on the disk. You can connect the old disk on the same server and try to access the data.
Follow these steps.
1.Connect the old disk on the same server.
2.Run #ioscan -fnC disk to identify the disk
3.Run #insf -e to create device files for the old disk
Once you are able to see the old disk by ioscan and device file is created follow these steps to mount the disk.
#mkdir /dev/vgold
#mknod /dev/vgold/group c 64 0x060000
#vgimport -v vgold /dev/dsk/cxtxdx (specify the device file of old disk)
#vgchange -a y vgold
#vgdisplay -v vgold
Now mount the logical volumes and access the data
#mkdir /olddata
#mount /dev/vgold/lvname /olddata
#ls /olddata
You can mount all the old logical volumes and access the data
Ganesh.

Re: crashed hard disk
Dear friend
how u are saying it is a software issue. at the beginning of posting u are saying it is hardware failure, once hardware failed u can't do anything if u have mirroring u can recover the data from the mirrored one otherwise no option.
u can't map in to windows, it is not compatible, if u want to test the hard disk again u need another hp system then only u can check it there is no other option
thanks and regards

Re: crashed hard disk
Until you do some analysis you cannot blame it to be a software problem.
Like it or worked !! Click kudos !!
