create_fastlinks kernel parameter

That it happens if the option create_fastlinks is enabled in a system at present in production?
That it passes with the present definition of the FS?
This function on the present is brought up to date Fs, or alone is created for the new FS?

Thank in advance

Re: create_fastlinks kernel parameter

Hi Jorge,

create_fastlinks is an HFS feature only.
Just causes one fewer disk block read per link when following links in an HFS filesystem.

So IF you use HFS filesystems & make extensive use of links, then it would be a good thing. If not - it won't do anything for you. Default is 0 (zero) or off - 1 (one) is on.

Rgds,
Jeff

Re: create_fastlinks kernel parameter

I suspect that your only HFS filesystem is /stand -- which must be hfs. If that is true, then this parameter will have zero effect on other filesystems. If you are running hfs filesystems then you should set this value to 1 to reduce the overhead of resolving symbolic links; however, this slight performance increase will be more than offset by instead converting your hfs filesystems to vxfs filesystems.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: create_fastlinks kernel parameter

Hi Jorge,

Yes, Jeff is right on ! :-) create_fastlinks is only for HFS filesystems and not going to help you if you use JFS filesystem.

Thanks to all by its explanation.
That so dangerous is enable the I/O Asynchronous?
Improves really the performance?

Thank in advance
