how can we delete old entries from who -u o/p
which file contains the information of who -u

who -u should be current.
From man as well:
"-u Lists only those users who are currently logged
in. name is the user's login name. line is the
name of the line as found in the directory /dev.
The time field indicates when the user logged in."

Why you need to remove? What old entries you are getting? Are they not logged in? Kill their session if you want to close them.

Hi,

After killing those process if they dont vanish then you need to reboot the server.

Sounds like you may need to talk to someone that does then.

I assume you ave root?
Again, what HP-UX version are you running?
What is more important, having who -u working right or spending time for reboot?
Or spending lots of time looking at all of those threads to pick what works?
Or possibly writing a program to fix the utmp files?
