Hi,

Now you put a new media into the drive and try to access it.
Best wishes,

Re: /dev/rmt/0mn: No such device or address

Hi,

You get this kind of message when no tape is in the tape drive.

1) Be sure that a tape is push in, or eject it and re-introduce it.

2) Try with another tape.

3) You can also have and HW detection defect.

Re: /dev/rmt/0mn: No such device or address

This looks like there is no or no valid tape loaded:

ov[/dev/rmt]mt -f /dev/rmt/0m status
Drive: HP C1537A
Format:
Status: [0]
File: 0
Block: 0

Your drive is a DDS3, what tapes are you using?

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: /dev/rmt/0mn: No such device or address

Try tar'ing to the drive - I'm seen that straighten out that problem with Ignite not working. If tar works, the drive and tape are okay.

Re: /dev/rmt/0mn: No such device or address

ioscan says that you have the device:

> tape 0 0/0/1/0.0.0 stape CLAIMED DEVICE HP C1537A

and as Torsten said, there is no tape in the drive:

> mt -f /dev/rmt/0m status
> Drive: HP C1537A
> Format:
> Status: [0]
> File: 0
> Block: 0

This is a DDS3 tape drive but it will not accept DDS4 or DDS5 tapes nor will it write to DDS1 or true DAT tapes. If you try to use a DDS4 tape in the drive, it will pop right back out automatically. Are you watching the tape load into the drive? A valid tape be pulled in and down and the busy indicator will flash 15-30 seconds. Then the drive is ready and you will see a BOT status with the mt command.
