I did this earlier this year, and like a fool, I didn't document it, and can't remember what I did.
I have a C3000 workstation that I just installed HPUX 11i on. I'd like to connect it to the 'net.
I need to set it up so that it keeps its own fixed host name, but obtains an IP address and all the usual stuff from my ISP. The man page on dhcpclient is unusually unhelpful.
The set_parms command does nothing with dhcp. It assumes that there will always be a fixed hostname and address.
Since this is the holiday season, I'm going to be generous at handing out bunnies. Does anyone have a clue?
Chris

Solution
Hi Chris,
May be able to set hostname in netconf but not ip address. I'd try that.
Here is some helpful information, though its a little verbose.

My thinking, never having had to do this is comment out part of netconf but not the other. You may be able to tell netconf to do DHCP fo the ip address while hardcoding the hostname.
Other solutions:
One of those cute $49 routers. Let it handle nat and provide a little firewall protection to your HP box. I'm assuming you don't do this because there is some reason for the box to be exposed to the public Internet, which is a bit of a hassle.
I'll think on this some more and get back to you.

Re: dhcpclient
Morning Chris,
Is it not enough to change the lines in the /etc/rc/config.d/netconf
HOSTNAME="your_hostname"
DHCP_ENABLE[0]=1
edit the /etc/hosts file and the /etc/nsswitch.conf (dns)
Regards,
Robert-Jan

Re: dhcpclient
No solution to the problem was found. I've reinstalled the OS and purchased a cheap router.
Now there are other problems, but I'm too sleepy to post these today.
